Horizon's very own, Mrs. Moes, who teaches 3rd grade, was recently awarded a $500 classroom grant to expand STEM learning opportunities for her students through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. Her grant proposal, titled STEM Learning, was approved in recognition of her commitment to creating meaningful and innovative opportunities for students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math concepts in the classroom.
The grant funds will be used to purchase a variety of building and construction materials to help create an accessible and engaging STEM learning environment for students.
Through these resources, Mrs. Moes plans to incorporate structured STEM projects into daily instruction, small group learning, and project-based activities. Students will have opportunities to design, build, test, and improve models while exploring concepts such as force and motion, structures, simple machines, and basic engineering principles. Students will work both independently and collaboratively, strengthening creativity, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
By bringing more hands-on STEM opportunities into her classroom, Mrs. Moes is helping students develop persistence, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving abilities that will benefit them far beyond elementary school. Her dedication to providing engaging learning experiences continues to make a positive impact on students and exemplifies innovative teaching in action.
