This past week, Horizon learners celebrated International Dot Day with creativity, imagination, and a whole lot of dots!
Our librarian, Mrs. Reiland, shared the beloved book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, which tells the story of Vashti, a student who believes she cannot draw. With a little encouragement from her teacher, Vashti makes a simple dot—and that one small dot becomes the beginning of a journey of creativity and confidence.
The lesson of The Dot is simple but powerful: Everyone can be creative, and sometimes you just have to make a start. One small idea, one small attempt, or one small act of courage can lead to something much bigger. The story reminds our learners that mistakes are okay, creativity looks different for everyone, and we should never be afraid to try.
After reading the story, our learners put their own creative spin on Dot Day! They created colorful dots to add to our giant gumball machine in the hallway, completed dot-to-dot activities, designed their own bookmarks, created Dot Day flyers, and even tried to guess the number of gumballs in our hallway display!
It was a fun week filled with creativity, problem-solving, and plenty of opportunities to show that everyone has a dot worth making!
