Team Horizon recently received a special note, entitled, "The Good Kind of 'COVID Positive'".
Mrs. Schroeder was a Student Teacher at Horizon in 2020 and has since become a substitute in the Harrisburg District. She is currently back at Horizon as a long-term substitute.
Here's her story:
When schools shut down in March of 2020, I was a student teacher in 2nd grade. One of the 2nd grade learners and I decided to be pen pals at that time, and we have been writing to each other weekly ever since; I also got to be her substitute teacher earlier this year.
At first, when we started writing each other, her Mom would address the envelopes to me. She is now doing this all on her own; it has been so fun to watch her grow in her writing!
I moved away for a time, and while I was gone, this learner's Mom made me a shawl. Today, the two of us wore our shawls and matched our hair to celebrate almost 2 years of pen pal friendship!
One of the most important things I've learned from being at Horizon? It's all about the relationships!
